Lock Haven University

• Lock Haven University (LHU) is a state university located in the center of Pennsylvania, alongside the river Susquehanna. Near to the major towns of Williamsport and State College, the campus covers the area of about 200 acres whereas the branch campus consists of 13 acres of land.

• LHU was established in 1870 as the Central State Normal School but later in 1960 it was named as Lock Haven State College.

• The present University President is Keith T.Miller.

• The university offers a wide array of 69 undergraduate program courses and 4 graduate program courses. Also, the enrollment for every year is approximately 5,500.

• The college now ranks in the 14 public higher education institutions.

• The student-staff ratio of the college is 21:1 and about 25% of the classes have less than 20 students.

• Some of the most popular majors the college offers include the following:
1. Health services
2. Business administration
3. Criminal justice
4. Elementary education
5. Recreation

• There are about 130 clubs and organizations which are supported with the funds collected through the fees and the profits the college charges.

• The athletics team named as Bald Eagles has brought a lot of glory to the college. In 2007, the team won the National Collegiate Boxing Association national championship. Also, the team has won National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship in the years 1961, 1963, 1966 and 1967. Also, in the year 2006 and 2009 the team won the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball National Championship.

• The university’s library not only includes varied collection of books by different authors but also it has database services that provides an easy reach to the magazines, newspapers, DVDs, etc.

• The campus includes many academic buildings too, like a Raub Hall which provides computer labs and classrooms; Durrwachter Alumni Center which is a home to administrative house affairs; Robinson Hall is the department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary and Special Education.

• LHU strongly safeguards its students. There is a 24-hour active helpline for emergency, late night transport facilities, overnight patrolling service, and likes.

• Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited in and around the campus.

• Another fact is that there is a student-operated television station too which on behalf of LHU broadcasts about the latest happenings, sports news and information regarding the on-going programs and events in the campus. A radio station named WLHU is there too.
